Mounting, framing, and scrolling are all part of the traditional Chinese industry with a history of more than 2,000 years. The basic steps include bottoming, repairing, tying, and drying; dozens of processes such as backing, upper wall, striping, boring, upper shaft, and signing are required. Emperor Taizong attached great importance to the paintings, and appointed Wang Xi's calligraphy and other famous paintings of the past to be mounted by Wang Xing. Yan Liang and Wang Zhijing were appointed by the Emperor to be in charge of the matter. Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty set up a painting institute, and the decoration of artwork was one of the six specialized groups of Wensiyuan. Chinese calligraphy and painting decoration skills have since passed to the people. The Ming and Qing Dynasties' way of decorating their artworks have become a specialized industry.
